A litte bit about me....
Hi everyone! I wanted to take this time to tell you a little bit about me and what I do with the Scholarship Advisement Program. I graduated from Broken Arrow High School in May 2010 and was extremely involved on my high school campus. I was a member of the Science Club, National Honor Society, Yearbook, Key Club, Drug Free Youth, and my personal favorite, FFA. In FFA, I served as chapter

Tips on cheap ways to eat in college
Eating in college can sometimes be very expensive, especially when you are busy and on the run like most college students. I am going to give you a few tips that will help you keep the expense of eating in college as low as possible. My first tip is to make sure and take advantage of your meal plan if you have one. I very seldom went to the cafeteria to eat when I had a meal plan but if I would

SAT Subject Tests
Some colleges require a specific ACT score for admissions and others require a specific SAT score. Most Midwestern or central American colleges use ACT scores while many East and West Coast schools use SAT scores. The SAT test is a little bit more complex than the ACT having 20 additional Subject Tests. These Subject Tests are required by some colleges such as Ivy League schools. SAT Subject

Get your expenses in line before college!
College comes with many different expenses that need to be settled before you begin your time at school. Some families think college means you are off on your own and it’s time to start acting like an adult or they simply can’t help with all of the expenses that come along with college. These expenses such as car insurance, internet, cell phone bills, and so on needs to be discussed with your

When should a student declare a major?
Declaring a major can be a difficult decision for some students. I know that when I first started college I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to major in and it seemed like all of my friends knew exactly what they wanted to do. There were so many choices that I was a little bit overwhelmed. If you are anything like what I just described, you are not alone. Even students that choose a major when

The Importance of Labeling
Many resumes spill over onto a second page if your experience warrants extra space. It's important to set your header on both pages to include your name and contact information for many reasons. The most obvious issue that could occur is your documents get separated. Also, employers spend approximately 2 to 20 seconds thumbing through resumes. If they see something they like on a particular page,
How many hours should I take in a semester?
Full-time status as a college student requires at least 12 billable hours. Each credit taken usually requires two hours of work outside of class to maintain good grades. Therefore, a student taking 15 credits is already committed to 45 hours (15 hours in class and 30 hours outside of class) of academic work per week. So, the amount of hours you need to take in a semester completely depends on how
Nakahouse
Los Angeles based architecture firm X Ten recently completed their remodel of the Nakahouse, a 1960′s hillside home. The home sits tightly in the Hollywood hills where it looks out onto breathtaking views of the city below. The team at X Ten explained that “the existing home was built as a series of interconnected terraced spaces on the down slope property.” Because of zoning and geographical constraints X Ten built off of the existing footprint.

From the moment we are born,
the world tends to have a
container already built for us
to fit inside: A social security
number, a gender, a race,
a profession or an I.Q. I ponder
if we are more defined by the
container we are in, rather than
what we are inside. Would we
recognize ourselves if we could
expand beyond our bodies?
Would we still be able to exist
if we were authentically
'un-contained'?

Why should I learn to cook, clean, and do laundry?!
When you get to college it’s going to be a whole new ball game. Mom and Dad are not there anymore to tell you to clean your room or do your homework; you are ultimately responsible for you. Since you will be on your own it is very important that you take the time to learn how to do laundry, cook, and clean BEFORE you start college. Depending on how far you live away from school you mostly likely

Learn the Choctaw Language
Why learn Choctaw? Why not?! Learn a second language and make it Choctaw! Extend your cultural background into the realm of language. I’ve been in many situations where a Choctaw speaker has begun talking to me in Choctaw and I regretted not being able to respond. The first question a non-native asks when you tell them you’re Choctaw is “oh, do you speak the language?”. Most people associate

Tips on finding an apartment or house
Finding that perfect apartment or house can be very exciting. I know that when I first moved into an apartment I was thrilled because I could not wait to get out of the dorms. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed living in the dorms because you get to meet so many new people, make a lot of friends, and live on campus. However there does come a time when it is nice to get out of the dorms and have

What are some pros and cons to housing?
Your living situation in college completely depends on your university. For example, at my school, Eastern Oklahoma State College, the only options available are a single or a double room which are both with communal bathrooms. On the other hand, OSU which is a much bigger university than mine has many different college housing options. At OSU you can live in a suite with four other people with

Why you should be cautious when using social networking sites
Social networking sites can be a great way to catch up with old friends and family and make new friends. However, more and more employers and schools are starting to use social networking sites as a way to look up future employees or future students to see exactly what is on their personal pages. While I have been in college, I have had several speakers from different companies come in and talk
I don't want to pay to study for the SAT. Are there any study sites that are free?
Of course there is! One site that comes to mind is INeedAPencil.com. INeedAPencil.com is a free SAT Prep Service that is provided by the CK-12 Foundation. After visiting an impoverished school, Harvard senior Jason Shah started this websites to make sure that anyone can have to access to study for the SAT for free and have a good chance of getting into the college of their dreams.
